Portrait of Jack Simpson Landscape Photographer (credit Mary Simpson)
Living in Scotland, I suppose that I have always been interested in visual art in one form or another. As a kid I was always drawing on scraps of paper and at school I was interested in art subjects more than science and maths. Later in my mid – teens I discovered photography, my first camera was an old Kodak Brownie then “upgraded” to a 35mm Zenit B, then to a Rollie B35, then Pentax SLR and finally to Canon. I now use Canon digital SLR with either Sigma or Tamron lens.
Originally I concentrated on the outdoors – mainly mountain scenes – as then my main passion in life was hillwalking, climbing and mountaineering. In those days I described myself as a hillwalker who took photos, now with age I'm a photographer who loves the outdoors. Through time my focus has changed from purely photographing mountainscapes and the people involved to concentrating on the broad field of Landscape photography. One of the best descriptions in my opinion of this genre can be found in Wikipedia.
" Landscape photography shows spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic. Landscape photographs typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes".
